5 PM MUSIC: The Sway Machinery fuses Jewish cantor melodies, Afro-pop horns, and blues to create a sound inspired by the band members multicultural roots.

6 PM CURATOR TALK: Associate Curator Kevin Dumouchelle discusses the exhibition “Gravity and Grace/; Monumental Works by El Anatsui.

6 PM FILM: An African Election (Jarreth Merz, 2011, 89 min.). This documentary follows the 2008 presidential elections in Ghana, providing a glimpse into the complex machinery of an African democracy.

6-8PM POP-UP TALKS :  Museum guides lead discussions on some of the Museum’s most intriguing works.

6:30 – 8:30 PM HANDS-ON-ART: Create a graceful sculpture inspired El Anatsu’s art.

7 PM MUSIC: Ghanaian-Burkinabe singer-songwriter Ria Boss performs poetic melodies on her acoustic guitar.

7-10 PM INTERACTIVE SPACE: Visitors to this space take part in collaborative projects including a photomosaic, a singing activity and an art-making workshop

8 PM ARTIST TALK: Brooklyn based artist Fernando Mastrangelo speaks on themes of global consumerism, trade, and identity in his work, including Avarice, currently on view in Connecting Cultures.

8:30 PM MUSIC: Zozo Afrobeat performs hypnotic compositions, reminiscent of the free-form improvisations in El Anatsui’s work.

9 PM MOVEMENT WORKSHOP: Relax with a tai chi class led by Tai Chi Brooklyn.
