Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum – June 1st

Saturday June 1st 2013 Schedule of Events

5-10 P.M. – Music: Chilean singer-songwriter Claudia Acuna leads off at 5pm as part of Carnegie Hall’s Neighborhood Concert Series, followed by Chicha Libre’s Peruvian-inspired psychedelic pop at 7:30 and political hip-hop duo Rebel Diaz at 9PM.

5:30 P.M. – Performance: Afro-Peruvian percussionist Marcos Napa and his band present the music and dance of Peru.

6, 7, 8 P.M. – Storytelling: A storyteller from Redhawk Native American Arts Council tells stories inspired by the Arts of the Americas collection.

6-9 P.M. – Pop-up Gallery Talks: Brief, lively discussions of intriguing works in the Arts of the Americas collection.

6:30 P.M. – Curator Talk: Nancy Rosoff, Andrew W. Mellon Curator of the Arts of the Americas and Susan Kennedy Zeller, Associate Curator of Native American Art, discuss the installation Life, Death and Transformation in the Americas.

6:30-8:30 – Hands-on Art: Sculpt a powerful clay figure inspired by Life, Death, and Transformation in the Americas.

7 & 8:30 P.M. – Music: New York’s only all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Flor de Toloache, performs a modern take on traditional mariachi.

7:30 P.M – Participatory Program: Meet Q’ero healers Don Francisco ND Dona Juana from the Peruvian Andes and participate in an authentic despacho ceremony, invoking ayni, or reciprocity, for loving-kindness and the maintenance.

FREE Admission to Everyone 5 to 11P.M.
