TOM SACHS: BOOM BOX

Retrospective, 1999 – 2016

April 21 to August 14th 2016

Hovering somewhere between art and science, functional and mythological, Tom Sachs’s installation of eighteen monumental, sculptural, and functional boom boxes and sound systems will activate the Martha A. and Robert S. Rubin Pavilion. The boom boxes will play a series of programmed playlists that go on one at a time, curated by the artist from his own musical community and the rich history of music in Brooklyn. #boomboxbkm

 

DISGUISE: MASKS AND GLOBAL AFRICAN ART

April 29th – September 18th 2016

African masquerade comes to life with a groundbreaking installation that connects works by twenty-five contemporary artists from Africa or of African descent with examples of traditional disguise. Presented alongside historical masks, the contemporary works touch upon key contemporary issues such as race, women’s agency, queerness, the exoticization and eroticization of the “other,” and governmental corruption. #disguisebkm
